First things first, let’s talk colour. Colours carry different connotations and personal preference plays a big part too.
For the ultimate in comfort and relaxation, look no further than classic blue. Featuring in no less than 7 of Pantone’s Colours of the Year since 2000, it’s a safe choice to stand the test of time. Moreover, the colour blue carries connotations of trust, loyalty, and relaxation – ideal for bedrooms to create a feeling of safety and serenity.
If you’re not a fan of blue, there are plenty of new-age neutrals to choose from for an understated look.
Neutral shades are a popular choice for those who wish to have a blank canvas that can be dressed up or down with furnishings. White, ivory, cream, beige and grey are all neutral colours, but don’t be fooled into thinking they’re all the same – each has its own undertone that’s warm or cool.
Warm undertones sit will with yellow-based furnishings such as spring and autumnal colours, while cool undertones look best with blue-based palettes, evoking summer and winter.
If you’re looking to make a statement with your bedroom colour choice, jewel tones are great for adding dramatic impact.
Think ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple. These deep shades create a regal feeling for your boudoir.
Making your bed a true centrepiece by opting for a bold colour is a great first step to creating a statement space. Strong colours can sometimes feel overwhelming when you’re planning your interior, but a rich-toned bed is always inviting, particularly when brought to life in a tempting velvet-touch fabric.
For a soft and subtle finish that still feels playful, pastels are the perfect option.
The colours of ice cream, pastel shades are another popular choice for bedroom wall paint as they carry connotations of frivolity, joy, optimism, and lightness. Our favourites are pistachio green, light lemon, baby pink, and seafoam blue.
Once you’ve decided on your bedroom colour scheme, it’s time to start thinking about soft furnishings to complement your chosen shades.
Textured throws, patterned cushions and quilted blankets will all add interest to your bedroom space. Play around with fabrics and embellishment too! We love satin, washed linen, chunky knits, fringing and pom poms.
Popular patterns include Orla Kiely-inspired graphics, modern geometrics, classic stripes and spots, plus ditsy florals. There are no hard and fast rules, apart from simply choosing things you love. That’s a sure-fire way of creating a sleep sanctuary.
Adding new ornaments, plants and pictures to your bedroom are easy ways to revamp its look.
The perfect bed may complete your bedroom, but it’s not truly yours until you take the opportunity to fill the space with your most-loved items. Photos are a lovely but often overlooked way of personalising your sleep sanctuary, particularly when displayed in antique frames.
Last but by no means least, investing in a new bed is certainly going to transform your bedroom. Beds are naturally the focal point of a sleep sanctuary, so choosing one you love is really important.
