Have you ever dressed up your bedroom for Halloween? We think it’s a great idea to get into the spirit of the occasion.

Not that we want you to have a fright in the night – it’s more about creating a cosy setting with a hint of stylish spookiness. With the creepiest holiday of the year almost upon us, it’s time to consider your decor.

We’ve put together some creative ideas to help you delight in the festive fun without changing things too dramatically.

Delightfully frightful decorations for the whole family

You may not be hosting a party but by styling your bedroom for Halloween, you can create a mood to delight yourself and your whole family.

Discover two themes we’ve created below, with tips on how to achieve them in your own bedroom. Here’s how you can stylishly decorate your bedroom for Halloween and beyond.

 

Halloween colours and styles

There’s absolutely no need to go as far as changing the colours of your bedroom – you can still have a great time adding decorations and accessories, alongside other fun and spooky touches.

If your bedroom is black and white, grey, or black and atmospheric, it’s already perfect for Halloween. You can simply add some bold touches and, hey presto, you’re already halfway there!

Consider your existing bedroom decor and think what you could add to it. If you already have some colour present, consider something that would look consistent with the theme. Black and orange are the colours most traditionally associated with Halloween.

In addition, green and purple have also both become accepted Halloween colours, and happily they really go well together when decorating. Together purple, orange and green form a triad, which means they look balanced and pleasing together, while still keeping a vibrant contrast.

More recently, white has also entered the Halloween stage, often being used in decor and upscale decorating themes. Red is another colour that has long been associated with Halloween, due to its close association with blood and gore.

Decorating your home for Halloween

After the unavoidably low-key festivities over much of this year and 2020, like many people you may be planning to do much more this Halloween, such as a themed sleepover for your children.

In this case, decorating their bedroom is likely to be a top priority. Spooky bedding and pillows are the easiest and most budget-friendly way to create a Halloween mood in any bedroom, so why not use something the kids will find really fun and memorable.

There are some quick and simple touches you can make to any bedroom to make it scream Halloween! First, these can be various artworks and garlands. These are easy to make yourself and they have an eye-catching impact, so you’ll easily create the right atmosphere.

Display a couple of Halloween garlands, for example, bat or pumpkin shaped and a banner with some appropriate words and Bob’s your uncle! Jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins are essential items for Halloween décor. Display them prominently in any matching colours and with any suitably spooky carvings. Finish your décor with a suitably eye-catching rug in Halloween style.

Bring out the fairy lights!

Then it’s time to bring out the fairy lights. These really help to build an eerie ambiance and if you already have them, or can get these in some popping colours, they’ll be especially effective.

Spread these out and clip them across the top of the bed or some shelving. If you’ve got some large glass bowls, pop the fairy lights inside for an amazingly spooky effect.

To give the room an unnerving neon glow, another great addition are neon lights. You can buy these in Halloween friendly shapes, like skulls and skeletons, to mount on the wall. Once they’re up you can leave them there for as long as you like.

 

Make your bed the centrepiece

Putting on suitably dramatic bedding is one of the best ways to make your bed the centrepiece of your Halloween themed bedroom.

It’s also really practical as you can simply dress up your bed and then change the bedding when the festivities are all over. In the image above, we’ve dressed our Lucia Upholstered Bed Frame.

Finally, you can add Halloween inspired pillows – we’ve gone for moons and stars – for another great idea that won’t require a big budget or much time to prepare. If you’ve got a display wall, just change the pieces that are hanging for those that are spooky and scary. Add lights or neon signs and candelabras, and dress up your bedside table with candles, just like we’ve done, as the fright night-friendly finishing touch.
